Drinking an Ocean: Approaches to Assessing Historical Thinking

How can we improve how we assess historical thinking? We need to be more intentional in how we support students in their historical inquiry. Through intentional planning of the curriculum and assessments, we can design inquiry that drives learning. In addition, we can use timelines with attitude and quizzes that help to deepen students’ historical knowledge. By using these three tools, we can provide students with the content and skills to produce more robust ways for students to think like historians.
