Natural Disaster and Critical Thinking in the Classroom – Kim Lochner | The OC for Social Studies

OER Conference for K-12 Social Studies | Track Talk: Designing arguments with evidence

Natural Disaster and Critical Thinking in the Classroom

How do we, as teachers, help students to become critical thinkers? How do students learn which information to trust and which to deem unreliable? This talk explores how the Australian bushfires provided a learning opportunity for both teacher and students, as they built critical thinking skills in the classroom. Students learned how to objectively analyze and evaluate a range of sources about an issue close to their hearts. In today’s digital world these skills are vital.
